How to address the scarcity of communication capability in rural and remote regions and innovate on data exchange, control protocol to enable the remote control of vehicles?

Remote monitoring and operation is an enabler of automation on open roads. Limited network availability and capability in rural and remote regions raise specific challenges requiring innovations in the management of AVs. This project investigates:

1. Innovative and agile beamforming technologies for antennas

2. Deep-learning-based real-time identification and prediction of communication coverage

3. The link between network capability and definition of the operation domain

In collaboration with Project 2.1, new interfaces and methods to monitor, control and retrieve AVs are then developed and tested. This project informs regulators providing permits for the remote operation of AVs in regions.
