The Future Transport & Mobility Industry Night held last week at QUT was a fantastic evening that brought together industry leaders, researchers and professionals to discuss the future of mobility in Australia. Guests heard from an impressive panel of speakers, including Irving van der Merwe from the Port of Brisbane, who shared insights into the future of logistics and port operations, Mike Lenné from Seeing Machines, who explored the evolving relationship between humans and safety technology, Rob Finney from Intelematics, who highlighted the growing role of connected vehicle services, and Dr Michael Kane from RACQ, who discussed the policy and infrastructure challenges facing our transport networks. The event also showcased QUT’s cutting-edge research, with Professor Michael Milford unveiling the Local Positioning System (LPS), a low-cost satellite-free positioning service, and Dr Xiaomeng Li presenting progress on VisionSync, an AI-driven sensor fusion project developed in collaboration with Sebastien Glaser, Ronald Schroeter and Jorge Pardo to enhance driver awareness and safety. The evening highlighted the strength of collaboration between industry and academia and reinforced QUT’s leadership in shaping the future of transport and mobility.
